Curriculum
Our Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision: “He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither and who prospers in all he does.” We want every child to develop strong roots, grow in confidence and flourish as they move through our school.
We believe that children need both knowledge and experiences to prepare them for life. Our curriculum is carefully planned so that children build on what they already know, develop their vocabulary and understanding, and make meaningful connections between different areas of learning. We want children to remember what they have learned and, importantly, be able to use it.
Alongside strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics, we provide children with a rich range of opportunities across the curriculum. Through science, history, geography, computing, PE, languages, the arts, RE and our wider curriculum, children learn about themselves, their local community and the wider world. Visits, visitors, Forest School, sporting opportunities, residentials and other experiences are an important part of this. We want children to experience things they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience.
Our Christian values are at the heart of how we want children to grow. Respect, friendship, forgiveness, perseverance, courage and responsibility are not simply words on a wall; they are qualities we want children to understand and demonstrate in their everyday lives. Through our curriculum, worship and relationships, we encourage children to think about how they treat others, how they respond when things are difficult and the contribution they can make to their community.
We want our children to be curious and confident learners who ask questions, have a go, make mistakes and keep going. We want them to develop a love of learning and to understand that learning does not stop when they leave school.
Most importantly, we want every child to leave us knowing that they belong, that they can achieve and that they have something valuable to contribute.
Our curriculum aims to give children strong roots, broad experiences and the confidence to flourish.
