The name of the school is Hopton Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School.

The school is a Voluntary Controlled school.

The name of the governing body is "The governing body of Hopton Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School”.

The governing body shall consist of:

1. Three parent governors
2. One LA governor
3. One staff governor
4. The Head teacher (if he/she decides to take up the post)
5. Three foundation governors
6. Four Co-opted governors

Total number of governors shall be 13 (except at any time when the head teacher has given notice as above that he/she chooses not to be a governor, when the total number of governors will be 12)

The term of office for all governors is 4 years. The ex-officio governor will continue to serve as a governor until such time as they relinquish the office that entitled them to their appointment.

The foundation body or person entitled to appoint foundation governors is the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich Diocesan Board of Education after consultation with the Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of All Saints, Hopton.

The holder of the following office shall be a foundation governor ex officio:

1. The Principal Officiating Minister of the Ecclesiastical Parish of All Saints, Hopton
2. The Archdeacon of Sudbury shall appoint a foundation governor to act in the place of the ex-officio foundation governor whose govern ship derives from the office named in (a) above, in the event that the ex-officio foundation governor is unable or unwilling to act as a foundation governor, or there is a vacancy in the office by virtue of which his governship exists.

The ethos of the school is as follows:

Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.  It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils
